1. Stage 1: Choosing the yarn

Every saree begins with yarn, chosen for lustre, strength and evenness to suit the design.

Silk and zari yarns are sorted by tone and quality before work begins. The character of the finished saree — its sheen, weight and drape — starts with this choice.

  2. Stage 2: Preparing the yarn

Skeins are treated in hot water and prepared so the yarn takes colour evenly and runs smoothly on the loom.

Prepared yarn is cleaner, softer and more consistent, which helps the dye settle evenly and keeps threads from breaking during weaving.

  3. Stage 3: Dyeing

Yarn is dyed in vats to build the rich magentas, wines, golds and greens seen across the collection.

Dyed skeins are rinsed and hung to dry before they are wound for the loom, so colour is set before a single thread is woven.

  4. Stage 4: Weaving

On the looms of Mubarakpur (Reshmi Nagri), skilled weavers turn warp and weft into fabric, line by line.

Silk Nagri links weavers from Reshmi Nagri (Mubarakpur) to modern urban markets. Their experience shows in the evenness of the weave and the precision of each motif.

  5. Stage 5: Pattern & detailing

Zari and coloured threads are worked into the weave to form borders, butis and pallu motifs.

Patterns are built into the fabric as it is woven, which is why a Banarasi motif reads as part of the cloth rather than something added on top.

  6. Stage 6: Finishing

Each woven saree is taken off the loom, trimmed and prepared for presentation.

Loose ends are tidied, edges are checked and the saree is pressed and folded so the pallu and border show at their best.

  7. Stage 7: Quality inspection

Sarees are checked for weave, pattern, colour and finish before they are folded.

Silk Nagri describes its production as combining advanced technology, the hands of experts and strict quality control.

  8. Stage 8: Packing & dispatch

Finished sarees are folded and packed with care so the zari and fabric arrive as they left the loom.

Each order is checked against the design and colourway you chose before it is packed.
